Brooklyn based needlework artist KR Chandler grew up in the Bay Area in a generational family of craft and design professionals and hobbyists. After the span of fifteen years of working in niche embroidery art Chandler discovered and quickly embraced visible mending and its aesthetic ideals. Inspired she feverishly learned many various traditional and other beautiful techniques including Sashiko, Evenweave, Swiss and Scotch darning, and Blackework. Combining her passions of embroidery and the multi-cultural traditions of visible mending Chandler has formed her own style with respect and reverence for the classics.
Chandler's zero-waste and reuse philosophy is evident in her work and sensible function. Her pieces often reflect nature, plants, wildlife, and folklore art. Her craft embraces the spirit of these principles, which has ranged from embroidering darned denim, mending upholstered furniture, and even creating a Boro-style quilt using only existing and recycled materials. KR Chandler Mending Services was created in order for Chandler to share her passion for the ideals of a less-waste lifestyle and to contribute her art for others. She hopes for others to see not a hole in an old garment, bag, or blanket but an opportunity to create something unique and new that can be repeatably fallen in love with.
Chandler works from her studio in Brooklyn, NY. For commission inquires, please see CONTACT page. Thank you. |
